Leaders And Visionaries In Osteoporosis Care

Matt Bruns, DNP

Dr. Bruns has focused his attention to osteoporosis prevention, treatment, and education. He has started the Bone Health Clinic at SSM Health Orthopedics with the goal of prevention of subsequent fractures and improving bone health in the community. He is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (ISCD). He directs collaboration with other healthcare professionals in the team to provide the most comprehensive treatment for osteoporosis.

Andrew Cozadd, PA-C

Mr. Cozadd has developed a comprehensive bone health clinic with TRIA orthopedics in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His clinical practice is dedicated to the treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. He is particularly interested in secondary fracture prevention and peri-operative bone health optimization. He is a current member of the American Orthopedic Association’s Own the Bone steering committee where he helps integrate and advance osteoporosis care in the orthopedic setting. He also enjoys lecturing on osteoporosis-related topics and mentoring prospective FLS sites.

Treasurer

David Dempster, Ph.D.

Dr. Dempster is Professor of Clinical Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University and former Director of the Regional Bone Center at Helen Hayes Hospital (NY). He earned his PhD from the University of Glasgow and completed postdoctoral training in Switzerland and France.

A past president of the International Society of Bone Morphometry, Dr. Dempster has served on the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Osteoporosis Foundation and is a Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society. His renowned micrographs of osteoporotic bone have been widely published and exhibited, including at the Smithsonian Institution.

Dr. Dempster has published over 300 scientific papers, served as Editor-in-Chief of Marcus and Feldman’s Osteoporosis, and is an Associate Editor of Osteoporosis International. His NIH-funded research has spanned more than 35 years. He was elected a Fellow of ASBMR in 2019.

Anne Lake, DNP

Dr. Lake is a nationally recognized bone health expert, author, teacher, and speaker specializing in Post Fracture Prevention and implementation of Fracture Liaison Serves (FLS). Ann works closely with the National Osteoporosis Foundation, and many other bone health societies and organizations. She is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (ISCD). The FLS program developed by Dr Lake at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is a Star Performer with Own the Bone (AOA).

Dudley Phipps, PA-C

Mr. Phipps is a nationally recognized bone health expert, teacher, and speaker specializing in bone health and implementation of Fracture Liaison Services (FLS). He is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (ISCD). Originally from Iowa, his passion has been in the medical field since 1980, from volunteering with the local ambulance service, paramedic as well as positions in hospitals and insurance. He is motivated in his work by having the ability to help improve the quality of others’ lives, not just at the local level, but also nationally.

Joshua Wing, NP

Mr. Wing is a Nurse Practitioner practicing in Pensacola Florida with The Andrews Institiute Orthopaedic Trauma Department. Following his graduation from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he specialized in orthopaedics, both surgically and in bone health. He is a board member of the Bone Health Osteoporosis Foundation and has presented on bone health at both a regional and national level.

Russell Goode, MD

Dr. Goode is a board-certified orthopedic trauma surgeon and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons.

In the Mobile area, He oversees the only truly comprehensive orthopedic osteoporosis clinic. Dr. Goode is active with the University serving on the Medical Alumni Association Executive board and overseeing the Frederick N Meyer 5013c nonprofit organization which provides educational support and grants for the USA Orthopaedic residency.

His goal is to elevate and standardize the level of care orthopedic patients receive regardless of the hospital system ensuring the best possible outcomes for all patients.

Payal Sahni, PT, MPT, DPT

Dr. Payal Sahni is a Physical Therapist at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital within the Montefiore Health System, specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation with a focus on bone health and osteoporosis.

She previously served as Director of the New York State Osteoporosis Prevention and Education Program (NYSOPEP), leading statewide and national education initiatives, and has advised industry and taught continuing education through PESI.

Dr. Sahni is active in bone health research and authored the first published case study on long-term rehabilitation outcomes for vertebral compression fractures. She continues to contribute to the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation and the American Orthopaedic Association’s Own the Bone program.
